SELECTION OF RAW MATERIALS

The raw material we select for Hesperidin then for Diosmin is dried immature little citrus fruits in which Hesperidin is as more as possible and other citrus bioflavonoids are as less as possible. In practice, two of citrus species are mainly used by us.

Citrus sinensis

Common Names: sweet orange, navel orange

The sweet orange is a compact evergreen tree 20-30 ft (6.1-9.1 m) tall with a rounded, symmetrical crown spreading 15-20 ft (4.6-6.1 m) or so. The leaves are shiny and leathery, oblong to elliptic, up to 4 in (10.2 cm) long, and have narrow wings on their petioles (leaf stems). The twigs on many orange cultivars are thorny. Orange blossoms are white, very fragrant, and arranged in clusters of 1-6. They bloom in spring and give rise to oranges the following autumn or winter. Last year's oranges often are still on the trees when the new flowers are blooming.

The raw materials for Hesperidin are the naturally fallen fruits with diameter of maximum 2.5cm.

Citrus Reticulata

Common Names: mandarin, satsuma, tangerine

The Mandarin oranges are small, sometimes spiny, trees with slender branches, and lance shaped shiny evergreen leaves. The leaves are not trifoliate, but the petioles (leaf stems) are slightly winged. Mandarins have shapely, symmetrical, rather open, rounded crowns and rarely require pruning. They can get 15-20 ft (4.6-6.1 m) tall. The white flowers appear in March and April and are very fragrant, usually attracting hoards of honey bees. The orange colored fruit of most mandarins is juicy and sweet, loose skinned and easy to peel. They are 2-4 in (5.1-10.2 cm) in diameter and have easily divided sections. They are similar to oranges, but usually smaller and looser skinned. The fruit of most varieties matures in November or December.
